Moxie Fab Silhouettes

Hello!

Before I get into today's post... I have to say, I just LOVED reading about everyone's lovely words, songs, inside jokes and silly things that you do and say to your loved ones from yesterday... it was such a good comment day- thank you for sharing them!

Today over at Moxie Fab World I am talking about silhouettes (if you haven't visited yet today, click on over and check it out) and here at my blog I'm taking a stab at making silhouettes of my girls.

Over at Moxie Fab World I share some of my favorite whimsical silhouettes of children at play, but since I'm a newbie silhouette maker I thought I'd get my feet wet with the form of silhouette portraiture that capture's ones likeness from only the shoulders up.

So here is what I created...
To make this project:
1) Take a photo your subject's profile.
 2) Print the image out on photo paper (here I printed mine as an 8" x 10"). Fussy cut around the outside of the silhouette.
3)  Apply a line of removable adhesive around the outside of the back of the photo.
4) Adhere photo to canvas. Variation: adhere to 12"x12" cardstock to make a scrapbook page, or print photo smaller to place on front of a card, journal etc.
5) Spray with glimmer mist.
6) Allow surface to dry and remove photo.
There's the silhouette... so simple! Now, because I go a bit crazy when it comes to projects like this, I decided to take a trip to Hobby Lobby and see if they had frame or something that would work with it. Here's what I found:
Its a pin board. And for once I'm thankful that I decided to use something like canvas instead of paper (no I never fully think these things through before I start on them... I'm a jump in and improvise as I go kind of gal). So I popped off the frame and adhered my canvas to the front of the board.
Then I adhered the frame back in place with a hot glue gun and finished the project by embellishing it with flowers and bling.
It was so easy and fun that I made a second one for my oldest daughter. Hmm... now I need to get them each desks.... wouldn't these boards look darling hanging over a desk?
Oh... the whole process was much easier than I expected... maybe I will try the whimsical silhouette of my kids at play next. Thanks for visiting... hope you all have a terrific Thursday!

Go-to Gal Designer Challenge... Bella Blvd

Hello everyone! How is your Wednesday going? Thanks for stopping by today for our Go-to Gal Designer Challenge.
On the last Wednesday of the month the Go-to Gals take turns picking a manufacturer and then we challenge each other to create something using products from that manufacturer. Its a fun little hop to see how we put some of our favorite goodies to use. There are really no rules... some times we all play, some times we don't.
Today Betsy, Julie, Kim, Teri & I are playing along and we are sharing projects made with products from Bella Blvd. So here's what I've got for you...
I'm loving the Sophisticates collection by Stephanie... Isn't that patterned paper so fab? And to make it better, I found this sentiment on the back it... "I love you to the moon and back." Well, that just makes me happy because Hadley & I always say that to each other. At least once a day. That's our thing. So any collection that has "I love you to the moon and back" has my heart. I made her a little card...
... think its girly enough?

Ok, so I have some Bella Blvd goodies to share, so leave me a comment today or tell me if there are any cute little phrases that you share with someone you love. I'll pick a winner on Friday morning.

And don't forget to stop by BetsyJulieKimTeri's blogs to see the projects they have made for you.

Products used: Patterned paper (Sophisticates Tall Tags  & Peep by Bella Blvd), flowers (Bazzill Basics), clear stamps (Hero Arts).

Zva Creative June DT Blog Hop!

Zva Creative and the Design Team welcomes you to join us this month for a blog hop that we feel is always extra special!

As you know, Zva offers so many beautiful color groupings for pearls, flowers and crystals.  We want to make sure that they shine bright for you, so each designer was asked to share a creation using a specific color or color combination on their blog hop project.

The Blog Hop begins at
Kim Hughes' blog. She will have the complete list of all blogs that are participating in case there is a glitch along the way. If you would like to play along, just follow along the blog path.  I am linking to one of the Zva designers and that designer is linking to the next and so on. Be prepared to be inspired along the way. Hidden on FIVE of the blogs is a Zva Creative prize package ...YAY! Winners will be randomly chosen after the hop is over, so it's important to leave a comment on as many blogs as you can along the way.

The Blog Hop starts today, June 27th and runs through midnight US Eastern Standard Time on Tuesday, June 28th and the 5 winners will be announced on Wednesday, June 29th on each of the five winning blogs. The full list will be found on Kim Hughes‘s blog as well (linked above). We will do our best to notify each winner, but it's best if you can pop in to all of the blogs once again on Wednesday...plus, you never know what kind of inspirational creation that you may find there. All you need to do is leave a comment on this Zva Blog Hop post...you do not need to leave a comment on each and every designer's blog post to qualify. The more times you leave a comment along the blog hop path though, the more chances you will have to be one of the lucky winners.

Here's my project to share...

... I'm excited to share it because I've rarely had the chance to scrapbook much lately, but when I saw that Zva's pink flower, I knew I had to use it with this photo. It is one of my daughter during our vacation to Florida last year... one of my most favorite memories from that summer.

The blog hop begins here: Kim Hughes.  Your next stop is here: Gail Lindner.

Thank you SO MUCH for joining us!

A Card and Give Away

I have a quick card to share with you today using a combination of October Afternoon's Schoolhouse and 5&Dime collections paired with a pearl flourish and flower by Zva Creative and a sentiment by Papertrey Ink.

Also, the generous folks over at Glue Dots® have sent some Poster Glue Dots to share with the college kids in our life. Well there are no college aged kids in my life yet... so I have a few rolls to give away. If you know of any college students who could put them to good use, let me know here and I will send them out to a few winners.  Give away closed... winner has been contacted.

Have a great Wednesday!

The impact they can make...

Hello friends! We are back from the beach... it was a wonderful trip full of sand & water... a very nice way to start the summer. I am so thankful for it.
While on the trip was that I finished a book... whoot!... that rarely happens now that I have children. And I really liked this passage from it so I thought it was worth sharing...

“You start off like my (young son) Charlie. You start off thinking you can kill all the baddies and save the world. Then you get a little bit older. Maybe Little Bee’s age and you realize that some of the world’s badness is inside you, that maybe you’re part of it. And then you get a little bit older still, and a bit more comfortable, and you start wondering whether that badness you’ve seen in yourself is really all that bad at all.”

The book is Little Bee by Chris Cleave. Now, I'll tell you straight out, if you read it... be ready. It is a tear jerker. But I really liked the book because it reminded me about how easy it is to become complacent.

And because I had a bit of an argument with myself about wether complacency was a good or bad thing (yes I fall into that category where you get real comfortable with life and tell yourself that it is ok & good), I looked up its definition. Complacent means showing a smug or uncritical satisfaction with oneself or one's achievements. Boy did that get my gears cranking, especially being a mom of two young daughters who have so much to learn about life and about not being complacent when it comes to the impact they can make on the world.

Anyone reading a book that you'd recommend?  I'd like to get started on another.

Patterned Paper and Shaped Cards

Hi all! I'm back again with another post with more GCD Studio goodies for you… this time we’re talking patterned paper and shaped cards. Patterned paper is one of my favorite go-to supplies and today I reached for one of my favorite collections… Soul Food (I just love those brown earthy tones). Here’s my card…
To create the card I used Spellbinder's Labels One Small (S4-308) die cut template to make the card from cardstock. I then cut a patterned piece of paper with a smaller die template and inked the edges, layered it with a border strip, butterfly, a brad and sentiment.

For more ideas for using patterned paper and shaped cards, check out the GCD Studios Blog this month!

Memorabilia Keeper

Hello! Thanks for stopping by today to get the details on how to make this...
... if you haven't been over to the Paper Crafts Connection blog to learn what "this" is yet be sure to hop on over and check out my first official blog post as a Go-to Gal:)

Here are the step outs to help you make this memorabilia keeper:

1) Start by personalizing a label on your computer. Print on cardstock and cut down to 6" x 4".
2)  Score a 12" x 12" piece of double sided patterned paper at 3". Fold up to make pocket. Score paper in half making a 6" x 9" pocket folder.
3) Cut V at center fold. This cut allows your folder to close cleanly when folded in half.
4) Add adhesive to outside of flap and adhere closed.
5) Create multiple pockets. If you are heading out on a long vacation or working on a large event, make your memorabilia keeper larger by adding more pocket pages.
6) Adhere folders together.
7) Embellish interior pockets with additional patterned paper.
8) Embellish front by adding other patterned paper, title, stickers, stitching and flower. Add satin ribbon (run underneath cardstock layers) and baker's twine.
9) Lastly, don't forget about the details...
... I'm looking forward to bringing a little sand home from our trip:)

Supplies Used:
Patterned paper: American Crafts Margarita Collection: Tango & Horchata; Little Yellow Bicycle's Twig Collection Crepe Paper Lace Stickers
Fibers: Lime Twist Life of the Party “Happy Day” Twine; Orange Sating Ribbon A Muse Studio
Font: Imitation 2
Other: Corked Vials Tim Holtz idea-ology, Flower by Zva Creative

So there you go... feel free to email me with any questions! So where's your next trip taking you?

GCD May Technique: White Space

Hi everyone, its Windy here with my technique post that I created for GCD Studios. We were asked to create a project using white space. Now “white space” doesn’t always have to be white, but I thought that this stark white cardstock was a nice compliment to GCD Studio’s Fun House collection. To make my card, I simply combined cardstock with Fun House collection’s border strips.
I often use border strips with white space to make a quick clean card on the fly… you know that last minute thank you card to accompany a hostess gift for the party that you are headed to. A quick recipe is to leave about 2/3rds of your card “white” or empty/void of any pattern or embellishments and the last 1/3 filled with the focus of your card… often the sentiment and any embellishment that may lead your eye to the sentiment.

Well that’s all I have to share for today… have a nice Saturday!
