Special Guest: Monica Bradford from Scrap Inspired

Hi! I’m Monica Bradford from scrapinspired.com and I’ve hijacked Windy’s blog today to share a little inspiration with you! Don’t worry Windy still has plenty of inspiration to share as well. In fact today she is over at my site with a gorgeous new card.

Why is she over there and I’m over here? Well today we have decided to do an inspiration blog swap. I have chosen one of Windy’s beautiful cards to inspire a scrapbook layout. And Windy chose one of my layouts to inspire a card. Fun right? So let the inspiration begin!

I was immediately drawn to Windy’s “Sending Hugs” card. I loved the bold colors combined with a Kraft background. I also loved the way Windy layered the papers and added a bit of stitching detail. And her use of a bold pattern combined with a bit of shine…stunning! Those elements were what I kept in mind as I began designing my layout.

After choosing which of Windy’s cards I wanted to use as my inspiration I went looking for photos that would work with that color palette. This recent shot of my boys with their cousins seemed like a perfect fit. I printed the photo out at 5x7 so that it would be the main focal point of my layout.

Of course I started with a kraft background and then went searching for some patterned papers. I knew I wanted to stick with the yellow color from Windy’s card but after that I just went with what I had in my stash. I even found a fun floral print, but since I’m scrapping my boys I kept the print small and as the background layer rather than placing it in the forefront.

Underneath the photo I used letter stickers to add my title and a saying. I just love how those clear letter stickers look like they are a part of the heart paper underneath!

This little kraft journaling card was a perfect way to bring some of the kraft color onto the front of the page, like Windy did in her card. And it was a great way to create space for my story so it wouldn’t have to compete with the busy background underneath.

I loved the way Windy’s card included so many little details such as the stitching, the sequins, and the overall shimmer. I added some of those details to my scrapbook layout in my own way. I too added stitching, and I brought in the shimmer by spraying the wood veneer pieces with some gold spray mist. Who says a boy page can’t have a bit of shine?!!

Thanks so much for letting me share with you today! I hope you enjoyed the inspiration blog swap. If you’d like to see more of what I do you can visit me at http://scrapinspired.com. I now return you to your regularly scheduled programming.

I hope you have a wonderfully inspired day!

Monica

Zva Creative July DT Blog Hop!

Hi friends! Its time for another Zva blog hop!  Zva Creative and my fellow Design Team members welcome you to our July blog hop! We are excited happy you are joining us and look forward to sharing our new work with you!

Today's Blog Hop begins at Zva Creative's Facebook page! Be sure head on over to check it out!
Here's a list of participants (in case there is a glitch along the way):

As you know, Zva offers many beautiful color groupings for pearls, flowers and crystals.  If you like what you see along the hop you can find a list of stores and online retailers that sell Zva HERE.

Today I created a card that shows Zva's beautiful two tone pink flourish. I think it is a perfect accent to these hand made water color flowers. To create the card I covered a card base with denim canvas and added a die cut overlay to add some texture. After creating the spiral flowers from water colored paper I add them to the card with satin ribbon and embellished with the Zva flourish. Then I added the letterpress die cut sentiment.

Missing You Already...

Hi friends! Just dropping in with a card I made to share here on the blog. Gasp! I know that hasn't happened in quite some time, but after nearly completely clearing my plate of most of my crafty endeavors I finally had some time this past weekend to just sit down and create for fun. It was WONDERFUL!

Anyway, I used one of my favorite stamps called Stinkin Cute from Simon Says Stamp's newest releases. My kids call it a squirrel, but its actually a skunk. Isn't he cute?
Its a pretty easy card to create. I used Spellbinder's Card Creator dies to make the card and white base for the stamped image and sentiment. After stamping the skunk I colored him using water mixed with Artisan ink. Then I had to go over the white parts with a white Signo pen (mostly to cover up where I painted outside of the lines;) and lastly added pink to the hearts and pearl accents over the white spots. Then I made the "That Stinks" sign and hot glued it to a portion of a paper straw (never used those before on a card... kind of fun). To finish you simply embellish with some ribbon & trim.

Well that's it for this card. The girls & I are off to go see the new Monster's University movie... its $5 Tuesday at our theatre:) Hope you have a great one!

Sending Hugs!

Hi Friends!

Stopping by today to share a card that I created for Simon Says Stamp's blog. Thanks Simon for inviting me to play & share with you:)

Here's what I created for them using October Afternoon's Farm Girl collection. They always have such fun prints for summer crafting.

I was inspired by a floral print oil cloth bag that I dug out of the closet the other day. On this card I tried  to create an oil cloth effect… so here it is.
Its is hard to see the shine from this photo so here's a detail that shows it better.
Instructions:
1) Make card base from kraft cardstock. Add yellow dot patterned paper to face of card as pictured.
2) Cut floral patterned paper slightly smaller that yellow dot paper. Distress edges with Antique Linen Distress Paint & allow to dry.
3) Cover entire surface of floral patterned paper with a layer of Diamond Glaze & allow to dry. Sew piece to face of card with a messy  double zig zag stitch.
4) Add horizontal kraft band to face of card. Make sentiment banner, painting edges with Antique Linen Distress Paint and adhere to card with dimensional adhesive.
5) To make flowers, cut patterned paper circles with Spellbinders Nestabilities Circles in desired sizes. Cut 3 sets of three circles in descending sizes. Cut petals with scissors.
Fold and add Distress Paint to create dimension. Layer circles to create flowers and adhere sequins to center with Diamond Glaze.
6) Cut/emboss kraft cardstock leaves with Spellbinders Foliage. Layer and adhere leaves and flowers on card.
