Wednesday Wisdom-Love Story

True love stories never have endings. -Richard Bach

Mid week already?? Time just flies.  Here is a card that I made for a friend who recently got engaged. I used Card Pattern's sketch #12 and the quote above for the sentiment inside the card-- it is one of my favorites when thinking about relationships and marriage.

Enjoy the rest of the week-- thanks for visiting Card and Page!

Tuesday Tips: ready for a few scrapbook layouts?

So much is happening right now that I want to scrap a million pages a week because I want don't want to loose any memory of the events of late and the funny, adorable things that my children are doing. So I thought I'd tackle a few sketches this week. Below are links to the ones I'm going to try out if you'd like to join me...

This is a great sketch for 1-3 photos with a small amount of journaling and some beautiful embellishments.

Another 1 photo sketch @ 52 Sketches 52 Weeks; however,  think I'm going to try to squeeze a few more photos on there;)

Lastly, one that allows for numerous photos  and fun embellishments at Triple the Sketch.

And to see my favorite card sketch out there this week visit Card Patterns.

Happy Scrapping!

Spring has arrived...

I think Spring may actually have arrived in Cincinnati!!! After an absolutely gorgeous weekend full of summer like weather, I'm actually starting to believe that I can pack away my fleece and sweaters and pull out my capris and Ts. Here is a card and page inspired by great weather and the beauty of spring.

This card's sketch is from Valerie Salmon's  Got Sketch? blog.

I hope you are also enjoying this incredible time of the year! Thanks for stopping by:)

A Sweet Gift for Friend

So here is one last gift idea for Mother's Day. This is a little gift that you may want to give to the mom in your life that helps you out and makes your life a little easier (or happier). Perhaps she is mom that you carpool with or a neighbor who checks on your house while you are on vacation.  Just a little thank you for a women who is already busy enough, but finds the time to help you out too.

Weekend Gift Idea: Something sweet for a friend

Anyone save your empty pasta sauce jars-- you know the ones that look like the old Ball Mason jars? I do, I can't get enough of them. I mostly use them to store scrap ribbon, but I had a few extras and thought this would be a good way to repurpose them.  For this gift all you need to do is share your favorite recipe for bread, cookies, coffeecake, etc. Print the recipe on cardstock, use stamps and patterned paper to pretty it up. Add some coordinating embellishments to your old jar-- here I used a wide band of paper, a ribbon, and a a butterfly stamp cut out and mounted on a scalloped punched circle.  To finish it off, simply fill the jar with the dry ingredients from your recipe. Add a thank you card or note & you are all set.

Now I'm off to fill my jar with the dry ingredients to my family's favorite zucchini bread. I think I'll give it to my friend who sometimes pick's Campbell up for school...or perhaps the the mom that delivers our mail... maybe I'll just put together a few more;)

Mini paper flowers...

Here is a quick and easy project that I found from seeing one like it sitting on the window ledge in my mother-in law's kitchen. It was adorable and you can have the kids help-- or make this completely on their own. The best part-- you will probably have all of the supplies you need at home.

Thursday Gift Idea: mini paper flowers

  1. Simply paint or cover Dixie cups with paper.  Also paint 3 popsicle sticks.
  2. Cut, punch or stamp flowers from scrap paper. I used my one year old's painting by punching the the center of the flowers from her artwork. Older children can cut out their own flowers from old artwork or create new and unique flowers.
  3. Embellish flowers and pots as you like.
  4. Attach flowers to popsicle sticks.
  5. Here is the best part... put a ball of old playdoh in the bottom of the Dixie cups (yeah!! you get to do something with old playdoh other than throw it away), stick popsicle sticks in the playdoh to hold up the flowers. You're finished.

These would be so cute sitting on Grandma's window or on mom's desk. You can make them as elaborate or simple as you like-- have fun!

Products: all scraps, sorry I have no manufacturer names other that Making Memories for the acrylic paint and blue dot print patterned paper. Just use your scraps on this one:)

Wisdom Wednesdays: Mothers

I have found that no kisses can ever compare to "mom" kisses, because mom kisses can heal anything. You can have a hangnail, a broken heart, or catatonic schizophrenia; with moms, one kiss and you're fine. - Robert G. Lee

I just love it when Hadley comes to me every time she finds a hang nail, saying "kiss, kiss, booboo, booboo." After a little kiss on her finger her furrowed brow melts away and off she toddles. I want to remember those tender moments forever. Take some time today to jot down the booboos that your children run to you with to kiss away. The beauty of scrapbooking is that we get to capture those precious little blessings. Here's a page that will help me remember the crazy smiles that Campbell has been throwing at me recently.

Journaling: April 9, 2009 I love you to pieces even if you try my patience by always making silly faces at my camera.  Sketch from Got Sketch?

Now on to today's gift idea. How about a journal for a girlfriend, your mom or even yourself? Add a few embellishments or a kind word or two inside and you've got a great gift.

Wednesday Gift Idea: An Embellished Journal

Realistically, we don't all have time to scrap, but we can take a few moments to jot down our thoughts or just a few notes about what happened during the day.

I'll leave you today with a few favorite quotes about mothers.

If evolution really works, how come mothers only have two hands?  ~Milton Berle

Motherhood has a very humanizing effect.  Everything gets reduced to essentials.  ~Meryl Streep

Grown don't mean nothing to a mother.  A child is a child.  They get bigger, older, but grown?  What's that suppose to mean?  In my heart it don't mean a thing.  ~Toni Morrison, Beloved, 1987

You do not really understand something unless you can explain it to your grandmother.  ~ Albert Einstein

Of all the rights of women, the greatest is to be a mother.  ~ Lin Yutang

Over the years I have learned that motherhood is much like an austere religious order, the joining of which obligates one to relinquish all claims to personal possessions.  ~ Nancy Stahl

2 Sketches 4 Your-Laura's Sketch 24

Here is my shot at Laura's Sketch at 2 Sketches 4 You.  I call it Pinkalicious Mother's Day--yes Campbell is seriously into Kann's book, so I've got pink on my brain (how could I not after reading it everyday 3 x a day???:) This sketch (for me) seemed harder than last week's-- so I rotated it and twisted a few things around.

Tuesday's Tips: Card Sketches for Great Mother's Day Cards

The thing that makes a creative person is to be creative and that is all there is to it.  - Edward Albee

Tuesday Gift Idea: A Handmade Card

Today's post is just a couple of simple cards that you can make for your mom. My mother-in-law always keeps the cards I make her on her mantel for weeks after she receives them, they become not only cards, but a decoration in her house-- she loves them.

No Mother's Day stamps? Just write out your sentiment on your tag or card. Mom will love having a piece of your handwriting.

If you need more ideas to get a card started, stop by one or all of these three sketch blogs:

Well, that is all I have for today. Have a great Tuesday!

Products:  Most of the products for the Green card are scraps-- you may find the ribbon (Bazzill Basics) and the stamp (Scrappy Cat). The glitter flower is from Campbell's art box. Blue card products: patterned paper (Webster's Pages), ribbon (May Arts); buttons (Bazzill Basics), flowers (Prima).

Mother's Day Is On Its Way: A New Purse for Mom

Anybody have a ton of scrapbook paper laying around, or did you buy one of those paper packs, use only a piece or two and have the rest just waiting for the perfect project??? Break it out! Let's do something with it for Mother's Day. This week I'll post some easy paper craft gifts that you can make for the ladies in your life.

Monday Gift Idea: Card Set w/ Paper Purse holder

Yes, I totally fell for Basic Grey's Urban Prairie line & bought just about every bit of the collection, only to find that I have hardly used any of it (sound familiar?). Anyway, here is it in the form of a fun twist for a new purse for mom. I'm giving this set to my girlfriend to use as a silent auction item at her preschool tomorrow.

The key to keeping this project manageable: Keep the cards simple-- don't over extend yourself (all handmade cards are better than a package of cards from the drug store:)-- they will be loved!  Click here for the purse's pattern.

Leave a comment and I'll send one random winner a kit and pattern to create their own paper purse (because as you all know, I love to share the projects that I'm working on:).

Happy Crafting!

Favorite Tool: Fiskars Stamp Press

Just a quick post while the girls are sleeping-- great weather today, so we haven't been in the house at all today--yeah!!!

I love to share great tools and recently stumbled upon this one. I'm not a big stamper, but this tool has really helped me out and changed my stamping life (and the best thing is that it only costs around $10!!!). It is the Fiskers Compact Stamp Press.

You put your stamp on the press,  slowly lower it down and position it on your paper  which enables you to get your image in the right spot. Plus, it prevents you from rocking or smashing your stamp too hard on one side or the other. It is awesome-- I highly recommend it! Let me know if you have any questions. I picked mine up at Archivers, but I'm sure you can find it at many online retailers or your local scrapbook store.

Have great weekend!

Mojo Monday- Week 82 Sketch

Good Thursday! 1 more day until we reach the weekend (doesn't it seem like we just wrapped up the weekend???)-- where does the week go?

Here is my interpretation for this week's Mojo Monday sketch. It basically uses one sheet of patterned paper, white cardstock, scalloped edge scissors, stamps, one color of ink, and a small strip of glitter lace.

To make the card:
  1. Cut card from cardstock
  2. cut patterned paper smaller than card
  3. cut scalloped edge on both papers
  4. adhere patterned paper and lace on card
  5. stamp circle, butterfly and sentiment (emboss if desired)
  6. cut out all three and adhere (use pop dots to layer each as desired)

Happy stamping!

Products: patterned paper (My Mind's Eye/Penny Lane); cardstock (Archiver's white linen); glitter lace (We R Memory Keepers); stamps (Inkadinkado/Personal Sentiments Butterfly & Hero Arts/ Thank You for Archivers); ink (Technique Tuesday/leaf); scallop scissors (Provocraft); other: clear embossing powder, pop dots.

Wisdom Wednesdays: Babies and Children

Ok so maybe it is just spring, or me... but it seems like everybody is having babies lately, so this week's quotes to scrap by are about babies and children.

Before you were conceived I wanted you
Before you were born I loved you
Before you were here an hour I would die for you
That is the miracle of life. - Maureen Hawkins

There is only one pretty child in the world, and every mother has it. -Chinese Proverb

A truly rich man is one whose children run into his arms when his hands are empty. - Reader's Digest

A child is a gift that comes through you to the world. -Unknown

Tuesday Tips - 2 Sketches 4 You

True art is characterized by an irresistible urge in the creative artist. -Albert Einstein

Hello-- here is your tips for where to go to find some great inspiration this week. If you need to make a quick card, visit 2 sketches for you.  They provide a real easy (but great) sketch design for you to follow to make a card in minutes. My neighbors came home from the hospital with a new baby girl (I'm guessing from the pink balloons on the mailbox:) on Easter Sunday. What a blessing to bring a baby home on such a day-- one I'm sure they'll never forget (who am I kidding, after having a baby you don't really even know what day it is:). Anyway... I made this card for them tonight while I watched the late night news using Kazan's sketch.

If you are looking for a start on a scrapbook page, I found a site that offers a free sketch every week, 52 sketches 52 weeks. Check it out, this week's sketch is one I'm surely going to attempt (notice I don't 100% commit:) to check off my list.

The correct guess is... The Page

Yes, I created the page first. To be honest, I was so excited when I got SIS's "The Drama Queen" kit that I had to scrap with it and wanted to use everything in the kit. I initially cut out the oil cloth flowers and intended to use them somewhere on my scrapbook page; but when it came down to it I liked leaving the page with the more subdued tones of the pattern paper, cream, lt. green and a hint of gold. It was just a design choice, but I loved the oil cloth flowers so much that I had to work them into something, and thus the creation of the card- a title of love seemed appropriate.

Destiny, you are correct! I'll send your card kit (and an extra copy of Papercraft's Stamp It! issue that I have-- you can use it for inspiration when making your next batch of invitations:)

Happy Easter!

What's on My Mind

Here is my creation for Page Maps What's on "My Mind's Eye" challenge. I just happened to decide to work on this challenge while I was watching the last episode of ER last week, so I was taking a little stroll down memory lane.

Products: patterned paper (Jenni Bowlin, Basic Grey, American Crafts); cardstock (Archivers); font (2 Peas scrapbook); ribbon (American Crafts); punch (EK Success); chipboard (Technique Tuesday); other (staples).
Journaling: Tonight the last episode of ER aired, and when Brian mentioned that it had been on for 15 years-- it sent me into a state of reflection. Normally I'm a forward thinker, or I try to keep focused on what is presently happening, but tonight I put a TV show to bed that I saw the birth of 15 years ago. I was just 17 when it first aired and as I sit here 15 years later watching the last show, it makes me think about how my life has wildly changed.
In college my friends and I were ER junkies (that's what happens when you have so many ned students as friends). I can remember that we would rush back from basketball practice, freshly showered with dripping wet hair. Sporting our best sweats...we'd pig out on some kind of cake, brownie or cookies (of the joy of being able to eat like that after a 2 hour workout) and watch our show religiously. Times have changed, there are no more two hour workouts and cake eating parties. I'm lucky I can squeeze in an hour show.
In grad school ER night usually consisted of some form of alcoholic beverage, pizza or one of my friend's famous feast nights--beer, wine and cosmos were always involved!
After that, (Pre-kids) ER night was just ma and my hubby snuggling on the couch (oh the days that we could sit in a chair and not have 1 to 2 kids sitting on out laps:)
I admit that I probably missed the past 7 years or so of the show-- when Carter left, so did I (or was it that I started having kids??). Anyway, watching the show tonight made me realize how much things have changed in my life in just 15 years. No more beer and late night pizza for me. Instead it is dinner around 6, kids in bed by 8, husband to bed early too, and Mommy usually up late scrapping. Wow have things changed. I have two kids-- TWO KIDS!!@%&&??- a husband, a house, two kids (I'm still amazed about that one)-- yes I'm really grown up. And to think that I'd be spending as much money on scrapbook supplies as I used to spend at the bar--never in my wildest dreams.

Card Night! with JBSoup

Hope you all are having a great day. It was beautiful, sunny and warm here in Cincy (some people even broke out the shorts today)-- just the perfect weather to get everyone excited about spring.  The fam and I headed to the Cincinnati Zoo-- it was flowering gorgeousness & we all had a great time looking at the spring blooms and animals who seemed to be just as excited about the weather as we were.

Just a few cards for today that are super easy to put together. They all use Jillibean Soup products, a great line that I just can't stop creating with it, lately. I feel like you can't go wrong with it-- it all coordinates beautifully and always leaves me feeing satisfied and happy with my work.
If you like these cards and live in Cincy, we'll be making them (plus a paperpurse!!!) at Scrap, Paper, Scissors on April 23 from 6-8pm. Give the store a call. Got to have it!

Wednesday Wisdom- Favorite Quotes

On Wednesdays we are going to work our minds a bit--I'll post a great quote or a few good quotes for us to live by, scrap by (oftentimes quotes will be a stimulus for my scrapbook pages), ponder or just read and forget;) I am a lover of great quotes and try to share them on my cards and scrapbook pages. I think we can learn so much from quotes because they are reflections from different times, places and experiences that we will never have.  SO I look forward to sharing some of my favorites with you-- please discuss through comments and share your favorites as well.

My two absolute favorites:

You must be the change you wish to see in the world -Mahatma Gandhi
This a great quote because when I first think about it, it seems so universal-- like wow, wouldn't it be great to be a Barack Obama and get out there and change the world? I'd love to inspire that in my girls. But... lets be realistic. When you start to ponder it further you realize it is meaningful in a very livable, down to earth sense too-- one can always change the world by just making responsible and positive choices in our day-to-day encounters.

This moment contains all moments -C.S. Lewis
This quote has always been one that has stuck in my mind, but never really was illuminated until I read Eckhart Tolle's book A New Earth. Now I think I understand the value of it-- we are only guarenteed this one moment that we are living in-- the past is gone, the future is not ours to really determine, so we have to be present for the people that we are with- it really is meaningful in terms of my marriage and kids. Don't be distracted or sweat the details. Enjoy the moment! Seize the day!

(Don't forget to share you favorite quotes-- I'd love to learn from them and you!)

Which was created first? the card? or the page?

Ok, so how many of you are scrapbookers who use your scraps (or don't use your scraps;) to make cards? Any card makers that make scrapbook pages inspired by a great card design? Well I do both. In the past I always made cards from my scraps when I was finished with a page-- mostly because I couldn't stand to keep (and store) or throw away my beautiful scraps. Recently I've found myself doing the opposite. So many times, I find that I am happy with my card design and I want to extend it to a scrapbook page. So that's the premise of this blog-- every Monday I will post two layouts-- a scrapbook page and a card. Post a comment telling me whether you think the card or page was created first. From those that guess correctly, I will randomly draw a winner and send you a card kit based on the current week's post.

To see details on scrapbook layout, click on image. All the materials for this card and page came from SIS Boutique's "The Drama Queen" kit.

Pretty in Pink

Ok-- so here is my pink page that was waiting to be scrapped. Yes it's subject is Hadley's first painting. Just the first of many hundreds more to come. I looooove easy layouts like this one: a big square, a strip (like a shelf) and some embellishments that you love (there are so many out there and I buy so many that I feel like I'll never use them all, so don't hold back-- embellish!)
Products: cardstock (AC Moore),  markers (Dottariffic), patterned paper (GCD Studios), rhinestones (The Paper Studio), ribbon (Michaels), trim (American Crafts)
To Note: So after about a month of blogging and reading blogs like there is no tomorrow, I've decided to take a different approach with this thing. Starting Monday, we're going to make this blog a little more fun and interactive-- so stop back! There will be a surprise for you!
